This is a long quote ( not even called a quote really)

but this describes how free my life and my heart is. I feel like gravity died with Christ years ago when I decided to follow God, and though things get hard at times, they also have that ability to corner me into making powerful decisions that will break me or make me. It is then, that my true character shines forth, and it is then, in the weakest moments that i find myself how deeply I am in need of God's grace and not my own legalistic ,perfectionistic, pre-conceived notions, and human efforts. He brings victory so close to my lips, and I can drink.

This is by Guy Hamilton Von Wiegand:

I would like to speak for a moment about the topic of sin and idolatry. I doubt that many Christians take the literal meaning of the word when they speak of idolatry. How many Christians actually bow before and worship false gods and literal idols of various pagan religions? When Christians speak of idolatry, we tend to mean something that has become as or more important to us than God, something ...that we have come to love more than the only One that can rightfully claim that position of true eminence in our lives. Or it can be something that we place greater hope for protection and fulfillment in.

These objects of our idolatrous infatuation can be inherently sinful, such as is the case with lust, but need not necessarily be so. I believe that it is often Satan's goal to take something that has the potential to be a great blessing and opportunity to serve and glorify God, and tempt us to elevate it to a state of importance that it has not right to. Take the case of our relationships, whether familial, romantic, or friendship. These are obviously not sinful in of themselves, and are indeed possible channels of tremendous grace from God. But the moment they usurp our Lord's rightful place they have become a source of stumbling to us.

There is however, another type of idolatry that I wish to address, perhaps even more subtle and dangerous than what I have mentioned so far. It is possible, to have sins, weaknesses, and difficult situations that we do not love in the least and yet still become idols in our lives. Herein lies the danger, when we begin to focus on the problem (whether it be a compulsive sinful behavior, a character defect, or a seemingly insurmountable problem) and not on Christ. Now the problem looms at the forefront of our mind, it grows larger and larger in our perception of it while our faith shrinks smaller and smaller. We hate the addictive sin and yet begin to doubt whether we can really change. We want to grow in our character and yet fail to believe that Jesus really can transform us.

Now the problem is, in our eyes, greater than God - it has become on idol, an idol we hate and yet bow before. Never allow yourself to believe that there is anything beyond the power of God, there is nothing in your character that cannot be transformed, no sin that cannot be forgiven and overcome, no situation that cannot be redeemed.
